Requirements Experience : Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery
experience required. First-time travelers accepted. Floating : Yes,
per unit needs to areas within scope, such as Postpartum,
Mother-Baby, or NICU. On-Call : Yes, low census (LC) on-call
required as needed. Weekend Requirements : Yes, weekends necessary
(typically every other weekend, confirm with facility). Block
Schedules : Not required; block scheduling not accommodated.
Patient Ratios : Per AWHONN Staffing Standards (updated 2022):
Labor : 1:1 for active labor, oxytocin administration, or epidural
initiation. Triage : 1:2–3 based on acuity. Postpartum : 1:3–4
mother-baby couplets (6–8 patients). NICU : 1:1–3 based on infant
acuity (Level II or III NICU). Special Requirements : Proficiency
in Labor and Delivery , Postpartum , or NICU care, including: Fetal
monitoring and interpretation (AWHONN Electronic Fetal Monitoring
certification preferred). Management of high-risk deliveries (e.g.,
preeclampsia, preterm labor). Postpartum care, including hemorrhage
management and breastfeeding support. NICU stabilization and care
for preterm or critically ill neonates. Ability to perform vaginal
deliveries, assist with C-sections, and manage antepartum
complications. Certifications Required : Basic Life Support (BLS).
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) (typically required for
L&D). Preferred: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), AWHONN
Fetal Monitoring, Inpatient Obstetric Nursing (RNC-OB). Skills
Required : IV starts, medication administration (e.g., Pitocin,
magnesium sulfate). Conscious sedation for procedures (if
applicable). Epic EMR proficiency. Strong communication for
family-centered care and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Guaranteed Hours : 40 hours per week not approved; typically 36
hours for 3x12 shifts. Facility may call off up to 1 shift per pay
period (every 2 weeks) without compensation (standard for travel
