Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hour Shifts Hours per Shift: 36 Hours per Week Experience: 1 Year License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS (Preferred: PALS, NRP) Must-Have: - Experience with telemetry and drips - Flexibility in assignments - Ability to manage a variety of patient populations - Experience in ER and Post Partum preferred Description: The department has 25 beds, with an average census of 12-15 patients. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5 in acute care and 1:6-8 in non-skilled and skilled swing care. Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, general medical floor patients, SDS patients, rehab patients, and wound care. Nurses will mix some of their own medications. RNs are required to titrate drips, including Insulin, Diltiazem, Nitro, and Heparin. A Charge Nurse is available on each shift, and the Nurse Manager can assist as needed. There are nurse aides or patient care techs on the unit with a ratio of 1:8-10. RNs are responsible for respiratory treatments and oxygen management. There are no respiratory technicians; a CRNA is available for complex respiratory needs or IV line difficulty. Telemetry is performed by RNs, who do basic strip sign-off during shifts. Shifts typically involve set schedules, with 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM shifts and 6:00 PM to 6:30 AM shifts. Weekend requirements typically are every other weekend, and RNs may float to areas such as the Code Team or ER, depending on experience. RNs should wear clean and professional scrub colors of their choice. Completion of a 1-2 day orientation will include unit competencies and clinical informatics training.
