Payroll Services processes biweekly payroll for the University of Idaho's five thousand plus employees.

Position Overview

As a collaborative member of the Payroll Department, the Payroll Specialist will participate in processing and transmitting university payroll transactions and ensuring compliance with all university, state and federal payroll-related policies, laws and regulations. The team ensures transactions are processed accurately and on-time, reviewing and resolving discrepancies expeditiously. They serve as an expert resource for the campus community, providing training related to payroll, tax and withholding-related processes and requirements.

Duties may include:

  • Enter, verify and reconcile information for the biweekly payroll
  • Verify and transmit direct deposit transfers
  • Develop and submit payroll, retirement and tax reports
  • Review and audit payroll transactions
  • Calculate and process tax withholdings
  • Reconcile wages and deductions
  • Maintain employee payroll records
  • Participate in reviewing and adjusting processing procedures

    Position Qualifications

    Required Experience
    • 2 years of experience related to payroll, benefits, and/or taxes; a Bachelor's degree in Business or Accounting may substitute for experience
    • Using computer software and applications for researching and compiling financial information, preparing summaries and reports
    • Analyzing and interpreting financial information and reports using accounting theory, principles, and practices
    • Composing a variety of business documents with attention to grammar, punctuation, and detail as demonstrated in application materials
    • Working in a customer service-oriented team environment to accomplish shared goals Required Education
      • High School Diploma or equivalent Required Other

        Additional Preferred
        • Working in a public and/or university financial and payroll environment
        • Demonstrated ability to resolve sensitive and sometimes confrontational situations
        • Knowledge of the Banner information system
