Itron is hiring for the position of Reliability Network
Principal Engineer at one of our major facility in Oconee, South
Carolina. This factory has development, production and services
activities for Itron's portfolio of products such as Gas, Water and
Electricity meters. Reporting into Global Reliability Engineering
group (GRE) located in San Jose, California.
In this role, you will be a key member of multiple teams to
ensure proper execution of tasks during the product development
cycle (PLC), to follow the strength of the product reliability in
production, and to make sure that the field products are reliable
in a stable network infrastructure.
You need to be able to work harmoniously with a variety of teams
such as the product core team, Product/program managers, global
test teams, etc. as it is essential to share globally the best
knowhow from network topology, network structure, product field
returns, production data and analysis, and development guidelines
and Lessons Learned.
Team up with field personnel for Field Products and Network
Monitor and test the network performance. Provide reports with
defined KPI results for network efficiency, reliability
(infrastructure & systems) single point of failures, incidents
Compare these analyses with the expected network and system
Proactively suggest and implement actions to prevent product
returns and to optimize the network efficiency (downtime, single
point of failure, etc.). Facilitate the implementation of Itron
Network best practices guidelines at customer sites Actively
participate with quality approach to launch new products in the
field from pilot to high volume.
Be a key member of the Product Life Cycle (PLC) for R&D
System reliability development and sub-network verifications
Provide feedback to the development team with guidelines based
on experience gathered in the actual field network implementation.
Ensure that the Verification and Validation tests are covering the
physics of failures from simulation, previous products test,
sub-network results (meter farm), field returns. Verify that the
system reliability requirements meet with the physical
characteristic of the product Influence the development team for
proper assessment and implementation of new technologies.
As a global quality leader, ensure adherence of procedures and
Assist Customer Facing teams for architectural and deployment
network issues Provide guides to a variety of teams for system and
network future development by sponsoring roadmap, physical of
failures correlation between system HW, FW and SW, network topology
infrastructure, reliability simulation at system and network level.
Benchmark the Network infrastructure for best solution leveraging
knowledge (customers & competitors)
Conduct research on network products, services, protocols and
standards in the network industry for best interaction with
extended teams (R&D engineers, Mfg, Field, etc.).
Knowledge of wireless devices such as wireless devices like IoT,
M2M technology, Smart Grid mesh, modem and metering technology, be
familiar with major carriers and their protocols
Preferred experience in protocol analyzers/sniffers such as
Understand basic TCP/IP protocols
Strong knowledge on WiFi, cellular communication
Expert on 4G wireless standard protocols and network features
such as LTE
Be able to perform signal integrity (SI), transmission line,
power integrity (PI) design analysis
Note: The person in this role needs to understand the End-to-End
process (from product concept to field returns analysis).
The candidate needs to be strong on theNetwork side, and fair
knowledge ofQuality concepts like Test/Field Engineering as well as
Root Cause Analysis
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer
Science, or similardegree,or equivalent with some analog and RF
data communications background
Experience: At least 5 years + experience as a quality, test
engineer and/or field engineer in a wireless systems manufacturing
and development environment
Strong technical experience as a Development Engineer, Test
Engineer or field in an RF and Data Communications or Network
Equipment manufacturing and development environment
Network topology optimization and calculation with field
deployment practical experience
Proficient in RF or mixed signal product functional test system
High volume RF and wireless product test experience.
Experienced with lab/test equipment: Oscilloscope, Spectrum
Analyzer, Network Analyzer, RF and data communications test
Must be comfortable working with board level schematics
Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills
Able to work with Engineering to resolve component qualification
issues with documented test results
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Must have ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented
Self-motivated; able to demonstrate initiative and drive toward
completion of objectives
Background of Product Engineering, Test Engineering or Design
Engineering is a plus
