ED Charge Abstractor IPosition Summary:Participates in abstracting facility Evaluation and Management levels and charges in according to CMS and NCHS principles and conventions under the direct supervision of management.Responsibilities:

Reviews the medical record to ensure the clinical documentation supports all billed Emergency Department (ED) chargesWorks closely with management and/or seasoned staff in identifying the discrepancies in the ED documentation reporting findingsAccurately abstracts records to capture charges per the department s productivity and quality standardsRelies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goalsWorks under general supervisionPerforms other related duties as assignedFamiliar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goalsRegular and predictable attendance is an essential job functionCompetent to meet age specific needs of the unit assignedRequirements and Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred1 year hospital experience required; 2 years preferredKnowledge of medical terminology, CPT and E/M documentationProficient computer skillsCoding certification preferredWorking Conditions:
